Okay, now I’m *really* done tweaking WordPress and the website.
I thought about it, and decided to switch the whole site over and be done with it.
I was surprised how easy it was to swap everything. It’s the type of thing where it sounds like it should be easy, but if it’s not easy then it’s probably a nightmare. Turns out I just had to update some URLs in the database, remap some sub-domains, and move some files. Really wasn’t much to it.
The old site is still around at old.jlarocco.com, but I don’t plan on updating it.
Other than the website changes, I’ve gone on a bit of a reading binge, thanks to the crap weather. I should finish The Ruby Programming Language tonight, and I have a couple more books lined up. I’m really liking Ruby, and I have some projects in mind, but that’s another post…
Spent an hour or two playing with WordPress themes and plugins today, and I think I finally found a setup I like. I was hoping to find a theme with narrower side margins, but couldn’t find any that I liked.
This one I finally settled on is called Arjuna-X. It’s a little cluttered, but I think it looks nice and I like its flexibility. I’ve had about all the WordPress tweaking I can stand, so after this post I’ll start making “real” posts instead of meta-posts about the blog.
I don’t update my website very often, and I think it’s because manually editing the XML and FTPing it to the server is a bit of a pain. I’m going to try WordPress for a little a while and see if I do any better updating this.
For now I’ll still use the "main" site to summarize programming projects and for links, but I’m not sure for how long. Github and Delicious are probably better for that stuff.. Maybe I’ll just have the main page link everything together.
Or I might move this blog to the main page and have links to everything else on the side bar. Oh well, I’ll figure something out when I’m less tired.
